    Description

    CSS Hunley Civil War Submarine memorial first day cover postmarked at Liberty, MO. on June 15, 2020. Color cachet with a period image of the famous submarine on a dock in the Charleston, SC area.
    Cover franked with a 3 cent UCV Veterans stamp # 998 on a 55 cent flag stamped envelope # U-700 (FDOI).
    Cover with a DIY matte and 5x7 frame, makes a fine gift!
    This CSS Hunley cover was printed on cachet #18760 by Alvin Eckert, #9964, USCS.
    The 8 man hand-crank propelled CSS Hunley, was successful in sinking the blockade ship USS Housatonic on Feb 17, 1864. She also sank after the attack and was recently raised and prepared for a museum exhibit. See the web pages for details of her construction, service and raising.
