CSS Muscogee: Civil War Blockade Runner Ship naval first day cover postmarked at Stone Mountain, GA on Sept 19, 1970. Blue photo of vessel printed on cachet #2186 by Alvin Eckert #9964 USCS. Cover franked with a 6 cent Stone Mountain stamp # 1408 (FDOI) on a gummed quality envelope. Cover with a DIY matte and 5x7 frame, makes a fine gift! CSS Muscogee: This 223' steam powered case-mate ironclad ship was built in Columbus, Georgia in 1862-64. She was re-named CSS Jackson and later captured while still fitting out and burned by Union soldiers on April 17, 1865.See her web pages for the details of her design, construction, conversion and service history, including her recovered hull in a current museum exhibit at the National Civil War Naval Museum in Columbus, GA.
