Description
This lot contains a USS Macon commemorative cover from March 11, as described below. The postmarks and cachets commemorate the passing of the USS Macon over various locations or Navy ships. As the USS Macon and USS Akron were military vessels, little, if any, mail was carried after the first few flights of the Akron in 1932 and two flights - one in 1933 and one in 1934 - by the Macon. This cover commemorates the second anniversary of the Christening of the USS Macon on March 11, 1933 and the crash on February 12, 1935.
