    Description

    USS MERCY T-AH-19 memorial ship cover for WW II  merchant vessel converted into a US Navy Hospital Ship. Cover postmarked first day at Washington, DC on Dec 13, 1994. Color photo cachet #1593 by Alvin Eckert, USCS #9964. Makes a fine gift for former sailors.
    USS Mercy: This proud vessel was laid down as a cargo ship SS Worth at San Diego in June of 1974. She was acquired by the USN in 1984, converted into a Navy Hospital Ship at San Diego, and delivered as USNS Mercy T-AH-19 on 8 November, 1986. She assisted in the treatment and transport the injured  forces in Op. Desert Shield/Storm. She has a civilian crew and a standby staff of medical personnel from the Naval Hospital in San Diego. The ship makes good-will voyages and was ordered to Los Angeles in 2020 to treat virus patients.
